On the occasion of International anti-Torture Day on 26th June, 2006, volunteers of MASUM demonstrated before the Alipore District & Session Judges Court with black band on their mouth and posters on their waist claiming; " The truth and only truth is that Harman Preet Singh, then ASP of Hooghly bashed Bhikhari Paswan to death and masterminded his disappearance" also demanding immediate ratification of UN Convention Against Torture. The volunteers of MASUM peacefully assembled in front of Alipore Session Court with these posters and distributed leaflets to passerby, advocates, judges, magistrates and litigants.
The issue of Bhikhari Paswan was detrimental, as far as rule of law and state's role and responsibilities are concerned. MASUM stands strongly for establishing dignity and liberty of people and condemning all form of tortures to people. On this very day MASUM collectively takes vow to fight against torture with its limited resources but with vim and vigour.
